The Developing Algebraic Thinking strand includes 20 lessons at each grade level. The first ten lessons focus on algebra concepts of patterns, relationships, and functions. The second ten lessons develop skills with collecting, representing, and analyzing data. At third grade, the first two lessons set up a fair test with flower bulbs. The algebra lessons are taught as the flowers grow. The Developing Algebraic Thinking module is designed to take 20 to 30 days to teach. Lessons can be divided between phases of the learning cycle or within the Investigate phase. The ten algebra lessons can be separated from the ten data analysis lessons to better match pacing guides and curriculum maps. The ten algebra lessons are designed to be taught sequentially as are the ten data analysis lessons.
