The homework assignments were developed by teachers of Math Out of the Box® lessons under the guidance of the Math Out of the Box development team. Each homework assignment is designed for a specific subconcept in the fourth grade Developing Algebraic Thinking module, Signs and Symbols. Each homework assignment is labeled by a letter that corresponds to the represented subconcept.

The use of the homework assignments is left to the discretion of the classroom teacher. The assignments are available in Word and PDF for the convenience of the user. Following the list of homework assignments is a link to a guide for parents. This guide has helpful hints for parents who wish to have more information about the mathematical concepts addressed in the homework.

It is the belief of the development team that homework provides opportunities for additional problem solving, for practice of mathematical content and procedures, for the development of connections between mathematics and the real world, and for the development of communication about mathematics beyond the classroom.

Homework for Subconcept A: Number sequences can be described, analyzed, and extended. This subconcept consists of Lessons 1, 2 and 3.

Homework for Subconcept B: Growing patterns can be described, analyzed, and extended. This subconcept consists of Lessons 4, 5, and 6.

Homework for Subconcept C: Relationships can be analyzed to determine rules. This subconcept consists of Lessons 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Homework for Subconcept D: Categorical data can be analyzed and displayed. This subconcept consists of Lessons 11, 12, and 13.

Homework for Subconcept E: Numerical data can be analyzed and displayed. This subconcept consists of Lessons 14, 15, and 16.

Homework for Subconcept F: A story can be told about the data. This subconcept consists of Lessons 17, 18, 19, and 20.

Homework for Subconcept G: A story can be told about the data. This subconcept consists of Lessons 18, 19, and 20.
