The homework assignments were developed by teachers of Math Out of the Box® lessons under the guidance of the Math Out of the Box development team. Each homework assignment is designed for a specific subconcept in the third grade Developing Algebraic Thinking module, Plotting and Growing. Each homework assignment is labeled by a letter that corresponds to the represented subconcept.

The use of the homework assignments is left to the discretion of the classroom teacher. The assignments are available in Word and PDF for the convenience of the user. Following the list of homework assignments is a link to a guide for parents. This guide has helpful hints for parents who wish to have more information about the mathematical concepts addressed in the homework.

It is the belief of the development team that homework provides opportunities for additional problem solving, for practice of mathematical content and procedures, for the development of connections between mathematics and the real world, and for the development of communication about mathematics beyond the classroom.

Homework for Subconcept A: Repeating patterns can be described, analyzed, and extended. This subconcept consists of Lessons 3, 4 and 5.

Homework for Subconcept B: Growing patterns can be described, analyzed, and extended. This subconcept consists of Lessons 6, 7, and 8.

Homework for Subconcept C: Relationships can be analyzed to determine rules. This subconcept consists of Lessons 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Homework for Subconcept D: A fair test is needed for data collection. This subconcept consists of Lessons 1 and 2.

Homework for Subconcept E: Data sets can be analyzed based on how they are centered. This subconcept consists of Lessons 13 and 14.

Homework for Subconcept F: Data can be analyzed and described. This subconcept consists of Lessons 15, 16, and 17.

Homework for Subconcept G: A story can be told about the data. This subconcept consists of Lessons 18, 19, and 20.
