Steps and Distance

Patterns of movement are investigated as well as classic growing patterns such as perfect squares, triangular patterns, and rectangular patterns. Variables are used to write mathematical expressions. Data is collected with the use of pedometers. Data displays include tally tables, line plots, bar graphs, and line graphs. Data displays are analyzed for measures of range, mean, median, and mode. Writing about mathematical thinking is an integral part of the lessons.
