Professional Development for Integrated Inquiry is based in the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Engineering and Science at Clemson University. The PDI2 team supports the following projects:


Math Out of the Box®

  • An inquiry-based math curriculum for grades K-5 developed at Clemson University.
  • Published by Carolina Biological Supply Company.
  • Implemented as a primary and supplementary curriculum nationwide.
  • Recognized as an exemplary program that has a track record of helping students, especially girls and minorities, to achieve and participate in STEM.

Math Out of the Box classroom

Driving SCIENCE

  • A STEM Institute held at major racetracks during race week.
  • Investigates the science, technology, engineering and math of racing and motorsports careers.
  • Speakers, tours, and garage visits followed by attendance at a race.
  • Introduces over 1,500 students to STEM and the world of motorsports after each institute when teachers include Driving SCIENCE experiences in their lesson plans.

STEM Professional Development

  • Math, Science, and Literacy Workshops are custom designed for schools by the PDI2 team. Popular workshops include Math and Literacy Connections, Math Notebooking, Math and Special Education Students, and Science Literacy.
  • Common Core Workshops provide a rich variety of mathematical representations and problem situations to help teachers with pedagogical content knowledge required to successfully teach the Common Core State Standards.
  • Middle School STEM Projects are custom designed partnerships to help middle schools transition to STEM schools.
